This year, we marked 50 years of Friends of Plumas

This year, we marked 50 years of Friends of Plumas Wilderness. As we celebrate this ring of growth and reflect on our legacy, we draw inspiration from the resilience of the forest that surrounds us. Just like the tenacious roots that anchor the old-growth fir stands, we too were formed– and are sustained– by a network of support from our community. We believe that by standing together, we can weather the storms, challenges and adversity that lies ahead in defending our public lands.

Wow! A huge thank you to the incredible volunteers

Wow! A huge thank you to the incredible volunteers who helped us clean up 460 lbs of coal from the Middle Fork Feather River earlier this month! Your effort helped remove nearly a quarter ton of coal in about four hours, making a difference in restoring this stretch of the Wild & Scenic Middle Fork Feather River near Sloat!

A very special shoutout to @lostsierraflyguide for being the inspiration for and helping to lead the effort, to @californiadfw who pitched in to lend a hand and help haul out what we recovered and to everyone who hiked out to make a dent in tackling the leftover coal from February’s train derailment!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY!

Join us THIS SUNDAY for the Middle Fork Feather River Cleanup with @lostsierraflyguide! 💪 We’ll be focusing on removing coal and debris leftover from the February 2024 train derailment on a stretch of the Middle Fork Feather River near Sloat that Matt has come across while guiding this summer in an effort to care for and restore our local Wild & Scenic River. Anyone is welcome, some hiking will be involved.

📅 Sunday, October 6th
🕘 Meet up 9am, expect cleanup to last till the afternoon
📍 Meet at 39.859208, -120.725196 near Sloat, we’ll break out into groups from this meet up site

Please remember to bring: weather appropriate clothing, closed toe shoes, a hat, sunscreen, water, lunch & snacks.

Thank you to all the volunteers who came out to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Bucks Lake Wilderness (to the day! 🎂) in addition to #NationalPublicLandsDay!

Our public lands give so much to us and what better way to celebrate the day than by giving a little back! Volunteers cleared chaparral from a stretch of trail in the BLW and helped reset a sign marking the way to Rock Lake. It was a beautiful day to gather and help steward the BLW.

🌲 Celebrate National Public Lands Day AND Bucks Lake Wilderness’ 40th Birthday! 🎂

Join us this Saturday, September 28th for a special #PublicLandsDay of giving back to Bucks Lake Wilderness, which turns 40 years old this year on the very same day! 🥳
Volunteer with us together to help steward our local wilderness! We have three different stewardship activities you can participate in: [1] clearing the trail of chaparral, [2] resetting a sign for Rock Lake, [3] gathering burned fencing materials. Necessary tools provided. Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or a first-timer, your effort will help us make a difference!

⏰ Meet up 9am, we expect to finish in the afternoon
📍 Bucks Lake Wilderness; Meet up at 9am at Silver Lake Campground

📝 Remember to bring: close-toed shoes, appropriate clothing for the weather, sun glasses, sun screen, hat, gloves, water, lunch and snacks (we’ll bring some too!).

A huge shoutout to all the amazing volunteers who joined us for this year’s Great Sierra River Cleanup! 💪 Because of your hard work and dedication, we were able to make a tangible impact on the Upper Feather River Watershed. Together, we:

🌲 Removed over 127 pounds of trash
🌲 Collected 20 pounds of recyclables
🌲 Stewarded ~3 miles of riverbank

Totaled with the statewide numbers and still counting, 28,751 people turned out and removed over 242,312 pounds of trash for California Coastal Cleanup Day!!

We couldn’t have done this without the support of our volunteers and our partners, @plumascorp, PNF Mt. Hough Ranger District & @sierranevadaalliance💚

Don’t forget! Our next river cleanup is scheduled for Sunday, October 6th with @LostSierraFlyGuide where we’ll be working to remove coal from the February 2024 train derailment. 🔗 to sign-up in bio.
